I passed him my second glove so we could hold hands
the others warm in their pocket close to our bellies
I wondered if you were there
Beginning beneath my black and white sweater
Sailing with us on the fjords?
I glimpsed you shining in your fathers loving eyes
Just like mum said of me
I was so hopeful to know you I took the test he bought
Knowing my hormones won’t have caught up
Nothing to recognise you yet
Our lives weren’t ready for you
My body wasn’t either it seemed
As I wiped blood a few days later
But my heart was-
It kept whispering your name
