Sonnet 2: buried wonder

This hollow heart is heavy with water
Memories of her swimming in the void
Her book left half finished by the author
I dream fondly of holy days enjoyed
Sometimes surrendering to my sorrow
Sometimes seen dancing to my strong heartbeat
Though I have been cheated by tomorrow
I find my defiance in true defeat
Now soldered tight to my favourite few
Drawing new air into lungs who waited
Looking to Jesus just like she would do
Finding hope where I have been deflated
Now my wonder is just buried deeper
Always asking why we could not keep her
Even in laughter the heart may ache, and the end of joy may be grief - Proverbs 14:13
